Facts Vs False Claims
CLAIM FROM PG&E AND SO. CAL. EDISON:
"Forces small wind and solar companies out of the market." FALSE
TRUTH
Prop. 7 expands the renewable requirements for all utilities from 20% to 50%. All wind and solar companies will benefit from this market growth, regardless of size. It is basic economics. CLAIM FROM PG&E AND SO. CAL. EDISON:
Measure locks in rates at 10% above market price and will lead to significant rate increases. FALSE
TRUTH
It's PG&E and So. Cal. Edison that are raising the rates, not Prop. 7. PG&E is raising rates 6.5% this year; and Edison is raising rates 16% this year. The impact of Prop. 7 will never raise consumers' bills more than 3% over market price in its last year of full implementation: 2025. PG&E and So. Cal. Edison are hiding behind the smokescreen of their misleading TV commercials in the hope that consumers forget that it is the utilities which raise our rates. CLAIM FROM PG&E AND SO. CAL. EDISON:
Creates market conditions ripe for manipulation, much like occurred during the last energy crisis. FALSE
TRUTH
Absurd! The big utilities and their utility colleagues in ENRON caused the last energy crisis. We need to be vigilant of their manipulations. Prop. 7 guarantees that all utility contracts will be carefully reviewed before approval to assure that they are fair and reasonable.

SACRAMENTO - Californians for Solar and Clean Energy (the proponents of Proposition 7 – 2008 General Election) today praised Governor Schwarzenegger for issuing an Executive Order establishing a Renewable Energy Portfolio Standard (RPS) target of 33% by 2020. The group also announced their plans for a citizens’ watchdog project to ensure the Executive Order is not derailed by the utilities and their allies.
“The Governor, through Executive Order S-14-08, has raised the renewable energy bar for California, and has embraced renewable energy standards which are attainable and can provide thousands of green jobs while combating global warming and climate change,” said Jim Gonzalez, Chair of Californians for Solar and Clean Energy. “The Governor’s Executive Order embraces several of the key components of Proposition 7, and represents a step forward.”
